We here at CBD Cop are dedicated to providing all the information you need on your CBD journey. We see a lot of articles about various CBD products, which are the best, what dosage level is right for you, and what you can do with your CBD oil. Heck, we write a lot of those articles ourselves. One thing we don’t see a lot is articles telling people How to Store CBD Oil. It might be more important than you think. Like all products, CBD oil can go bad and degrade unless stored properly. We want you to get the most out of your CBD journey, and that’s why we’re writing this guide for How to Store CBD Oil. You wouldn’t leave a banana sitting in the sun, and you don’t just put raw chicken in Tupperware and throw it on the counter, so why wouldn’t you take care of your CBD? Let’s get started.
CBD Oil Shelf Life
Before we begin, we need to get a baseline on how long CBD oil should last. Like all products (except maybe Twinkies), it does degrade over time. This isn’t a problem for most people because they use the CBD well before it would expire, but it can expire. Depending on concentration level and quality of the product, the average shelf life is between 1 and 2 years. That number can drop dramatically if the oil is stored improperly. Now that we know what the baseline for the oil is, let’s get on to How to Store CBD Oil. You want it to last as long as possible.
How to Store CBD Oil
- Keep Out of Direct Light – Direct sunlight will breakdown the CBD in the oil. That makes it less effective when ingested. For the maximum benefits from your CBD oil, keep it out of the sun.
- Avoid Heat – Like direct sunlight, heat will also breakdown the CBD over time. To be safe, we suggest keeping your CBD oil in an environment that doesn’t get above 80 degrees Fahrenheit.
- The Fridge is Okay, But It May Cause a Problem – Keeping your CBD in the cold, dark fridge may seem like a great idea, and you’re kind of right. It’s certainly not bad for the oil. However, some users have reported that if you keep it in the fridge, the oil becomes thick, viscous, and hard to use. To remedy this, all you have to do is run the bottle under warm (not hot) water for a few seconds
- Avoid Open Air – Like most foods, CBD oil is no friend to just being left in the open air. Air will degrade the oil and the CBD inside. In fact, we’d recommend that when storing your CBD oil, just leave it in the package it came in. Don’t put it in a mason jar or other hipster nonsense if you want to keep it as preserved as possible.
- The Pantry Is the Way to Go – In the end, the best place (we can think of) when it comes to How to Store CBD Oil is the pantry. If possible, the basement pantry is preferable since it should be cooler down there.
Storing CBD Edibles and Other Products
These rules generally apply to all CBD products. Since CBD oil is technically a food, it makes sense that the same preservation techniques would work for CBD products that are literally just food. Most of all, we want you to get the maximum benefits out of your oil, and improper storage can make it less effective. That’s no good, so make sure you’re taking care of your oil, and it will take care of you!
